Telstra, Optus and Vodafone have announced they are shutting down their 3G networks and repurposing this older mobile frequency band to expand their current 4G and 5G networks. The shutdown has commenced and will continue throughout 2024, 3G services are being progressively shutdown throughout Australia, which means all devices that rely on a 3G network for communications will need to be upgraded to stay connected. Vodafone 3G shutdown announcement – December 2023
Most alarm communicators installed prior to mid-2017 will utilise a 3G network to send alarm signals between your premises and our Chubb monitoring centre. However some alarm panel manufacturers continued to utilise 3G communications well after this date, so it is important to check every alarm service. To avoid any disruption to your alarm monitoring services, it is essential that you migrate your 3G network alarm communications devices as soon as possible, as 3G network coverage has already started to degrade in some locations.
Our 3G customer transition specialists are available to provide guidance on the next steps to ensure we can continue to monitor and protect your most important assets.
The team will confirm if your existing alarm monitoring service will be impacted by the 3G network closures and will provide you with the relevant information to transition your current 3G services prior to the network closures.
The transition is a simple and inexpensive process that involves a Chubb technician attending your premises and replacing the existing 3G hardware with a new 4G communicator. This transition can typically be completed less in than an hour, and there will be no discernible changes to how your alarm system operates once the upgrade completed.
