Chubb is proud to support its employees in volunteering with local charities as part of their charitAble initiative. Earlier in the month, three members of the Talent and Acquisition team supported the Blackburn Foodbank with much-needed food and their organisation skills. The Blackburn Foodbank provides three days of nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people referred to them in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. The day involved each team member being assigned a pantry, where they worked alongside an established volunteer to help make up around 60 dry food parcels for locals. The parcels were created based on the requirements of referred clients and their families, who formed a list of the items they most needed, such as cereal, pasta and rice. charitAble, Chubb’s Employer-Supported Volunteering Programme, provides employees with an opportunity for three or more members to select a non-profit organisation or school to work with on a volunteer project. All approved projects will receive a £500 grant from Chubb and employees will be given two paid days off per year to volunteer. In addition to the dry food parcels, volunteers also created parcels for fresh produce, such as fish and fruit. Michelle Thistlewaite, Talent Acquisition Leader, commented, “It was fantastic to see what happens to our donations and to meet some of the people who work or volunteer at the foodbank regularly. I feel fortunate that Chubb allows us the opportunity to help people in our local community.” Karen Waring, Talent Acquisition Admin Supervisor, added, I have always given donations to foodbank via my children’s school and church, but to see the organisation in action was very impressive.” Gill Fourie, Centre Manager at the Blackburn Foodbank was excited to have the team for the day and said: “It’s great to have the involvement of local businesses. We really appreciate organisations allowing their employees to get involved with local charities, and given the rising demand at the foodbank, we are delighted that Chubb chose to volunteer here. We couldn’t have done without them on the day!”
