Organised by Chubb Fire & Security in partnership with the NFU (National Farmers’ Union), Rutland Agricultural Society,
Leicestershire & Rutland Rural Policing Team and Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service, the community event on 8th October brought together farmers, rural business owners and homeowners from across Rutland, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire to explore practical approaches to protecting people, property and assets.
Drawing on expertise from across the security, fire safety and emergency services sectors, the event provided an opportunity for attendees to discuss the challenges facing rural communities, learn more about the solutions available to them and gain practical advice from organisations working directly with farms, businesses and homeowners.
Reflecting on the importance of collaboration in supporting rural communities, Kirsty Brooks, Director of Strategy & Development at Chubb Fire & Security UK & Ireland, said:
“The event was about bringing together supplier partners, industry experts and local organisations to support rural communities and help people understand the technology and solutions available to them.
“Whether it’s security, fire safety or life safety, it’s important that farms, rural businesses and homeowners can see these solutions in action, understand what works best for their environment and take away practical advice that can help them protect their people, property and assets.”
Protecting People, Property and Assets
Throughout the day, visitors were able to see a wide range of security, fire safety and life safety solutions in action, helping demonstrate how different technologies can be used to support safer and more resilient rural environments.
Solutions on display included:
Attendees also had the opportunity to take part in fire extinguisher training, speak directly with representatives from local police and fire services, and enjoy complimentary refreshments and a locally supplied hog roast from Farmer Lou.
Technology specialists supporting the event included Hikvision, Ajax Systems, SMC, Wall2Wall Security and Knowio, providing attendees with practical demonstrations and insight into the latest security and fire safety technologies.
A Layered Approach to Protection
Farms, rural businesses and homeowners often face unique challenges, from protecting large and sometimes remote sites to safeguarding valuable equipment, assets and people. A key theme throughout the event was the importance of taking a layered approach to protection.
Rather than relying on a single camera, alarm or security measure, layered security combines multiple technologies and services that work together to provide successive levels of protection. From perimeter detection and surveillance through to monitoring and response, each layer plays a role in helping organisations identify, deter and respond to potential threats.
For rural environments, where sites can often be large, remote and spread across multiple locations, a layered approach can help improve visibility, strengthen resilience and provide greater protection for people, property and operations. Solutions such as CCTV, remote monitoring, perimeter protection, access control and intruder detection can work together as part of a connected approach, helping organisations respond more effectively while minimising disruption.
Highlighting the benefits of a layered approach, Sean Haycock, Head of Design Fire & Security UK at Chubb Fire & Security, said:
“Effective protection is not about a single system. The most effective approach is layered security, where different technologies work together to provide earlier detection, greater visibility and the opportunity to deter and respond to incidents before they impact operations.”
