Chubb currently installs security systems to comply with the following:

PD 6662 Scheme for the application of European standards for intrusion and hold-up alarm systems in the UK.

BS 8243 Installation and configuration of intruder and hold-up alarm systems designed to generate confirmed alarm conditions

BS 9263 Intruder and hold-up alarm systems – Commissioning, maintenance and remote support

BS EN 50131-1 Alarm systems, Intrusion and hold-up systems, System specific requirements.

All intruder and hold-up alarm systems installed within the European Union must meet fundamental standards in order to be accepted by insurance companies and to be allowed to summon a police response. The European standard applicable to intruder and hold-up alarms is the EN50131 series.

Each country in Europe often has its own individual requirements which alarm systems must also comply with. In the UK these additional standards are represented by the PD662, BS8243 and BS9263 standards.

Reducing False Alarms

In addition the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC), previously ACPO, have a policy for alarms that initiate a police response. This is designed to reduce the number of false alarms and the resulting strain on police resources. The emphasis is on the use of alarm confirmation technology and police response will be reduced or completely withdrawn if a system repeatedly generates false alarms. To apply for Police response or to have it reinstated, a security system must incorporate alarm confirmation technology.

Chubb obtains Police Unique Reference Numbers (URN’s), which enable police response, for the systems installed on behalf of its customers where required.
