For someone visiting the Chubb website or reading about the business, it’s natural to wonder, who are the people behind this business? That’s why we’re introducing a Chubb team blog series. Each month, we will introduce you to a different member of the business, starting with those in the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) so you can  get to know who we are and what makes us tick.   First up is David Jackola…   What is your role at Chubb? My role at Chubb is CFO and VP of Transformation.  In a nutshell, I am responsible for helping the Chubb business meet its short term and long term financial goals, and along the way to do it in a way that is more efficient and which better leverages data. This means installing great processes, and automation where it makes sense to.   What makes you passionate about work?   I am passionate about the Chubb team and about helping our phenomenal teammates around the world become better leaders; I do all that I can to help our team succeed.  This business is great because of the great people that are a part of it, so making sure that our teammates are well taken care of and learning every day is vital.   Tell us about a typical working day for you?  There is no typical workday, but there are two things that are consistent. One is that I spend the first 10 or 15 minutes planning the day. The other is that I spend the last 10 or 15 minutes reflecting on the day.  The rest of the time is spent with teammates across finance and the broader Chubb team in some form, either in person or on the phone.  As part of the Chubb leadership team, my role is all about alignment, collaboration, and coordination.   How would you describe the culture at Chubb?    The most striking thing about the Chubb culture is how much our people care about the business and our customers. It’s incredible. I think our 5 values and behaviours do a superb job of capturing what is important to us as a team and how we live that on a daily basis.   What three words sum up your leadership style?

  • Coaching
  • Empowering
  • Improving

We all know the importance of maintaining a healthy work life balance – so what is it you do to relax and recoup outside of the office?  My wife and I are new to the UK (we are from the USA), so each weekend we try to step away from the real world and explore a new part of this amazing country.  We also try to take a nice walk each evening with our two great Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Dash and Daisy.   If you had one specialist subject, be it niche or broad, what would it be? I am a master (kind of) of crossword puzzles. I have successfully solved the New York Times Crossword puzzle every day for the last 15 years of so.
